JIAN (RYAN) ZHANG

Managing Director

ryan@ulmus.ca

Ryan has always had a passion for building.

With a Bachelors in Municipal Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology and his Masters in Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Ryan used his knowledge to found Royal Golden Construction Group Ltd. after a successful position with Bird Construction, who notably built the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre. This was also his introduction to LEED Gold Certification and how a building can impact its environment.

While designing and building luxury homes on the Vancouver West Side and Richmond, he discovered his appreciation for the craftsmanship of millwork and wood carving. To deliver the specialty products he envisioned for his homes, Ryan opened Vancouver Wood Carving Ltd. and Brother’s Millwork to fulfill his exacting standards for quality.

However, it was his family that inspired him to create Ulmus Development Ltd. Having worked on large-scale commercial and single-family homes, he considered what would be the legacy left behind for his children and their children. More importantly, what kind of environment would he be responsible for as a developer. It is this long-term thinking and consideration that formed the basis to only design and build developments that have a positive impact. For his family, Ulmus Development is committed to positive environmental change and sustainable places that will continue to attract people for generations to come.
